Class format Each teleclass begins with a brief review of material presented in earlier classes, followed by the topic for that evening’s class. Using the slide presentation, together with lectures, case studies and personal interaction, your instructor guides you through the material. Each class includes a question period and “open discussion” session where you are encouraged to present your ideas and experiences, seek clarification, and talk to your colleagues from around the country. How a teleclass works Teleclasses are classes you take by phone. You phone a central teleclass number to be connected to your class instructors and to the other participants. You listen, ask questions, and take part in the discussions. Apart from registration fees, your only additional costs are the long-distance charges which your phone company will bill you (typically, about $3 an hour). Class instructors Your chief instructor is Gaynor Govias, one of North America’s leading asthma educators. She will be joined each week by a guest instructor. Gaynor Govias, BSc, BEd, CAI She makes presentations at national conferences, conducts national and international workshops, and provides consulting services to various organizations. A certified teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience, she has worked as a consultant in the development of teaching materials, teaching programs and workshops for both children and adults. She has over 20 years of experience in designing and administering unique medical educational programs for a variety of special groups. She writes for The Asthma Education Quarterly, a magazine for asthma educators, and has written numerous publications and reference works for asthma educators. She is also co-author of Asthma Education: Principles and Practice, a textbook for asthma educators. Class size To ensure individual attention and effective personal interaction, only a limited number of persons are accepted for each class.
